Between Horizons
Harbor Gallery is dedicated to presenting distinctive contemporary art shaped by thoughtful inquiry, accomplished technique, and a clear artistic point of view. Our program brings together emerging, mid-career, and established artists working across painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and works on paper. While their practices vary, each artist demonstrates a sustained commitment to material exploration and contributes a meaningful perspective to contemporary culture.
The gallery takes its name from the idea of a harbor as both a place of arrival and a point of departure. This concept guides our approach to exhibitions and artist representation. We see the gallery as a space where artists, collectors, curators, designers, and communities can encounter new ideas, develop lasting relationships, and participate in conversations that extend beyond the exhibition itself. Our presentations are carefully considered, allowing individual works to be experienced on their own while revealing broader connections among material, place, memory, identity, and the natural environment.
We work closely with our artists to support the long-term development of their practices. This includes organizing focused exhibitions, introducing their work to new audiences, facilitating institutional and private placements, and creating opportunities for critical engagement. Our relationships with artists are built on trust, transparency, and an appreciation for the time required to develop a significant body of work. We value practices that evolve through research and experimentation, and we remain attentive to the different forms that meaningful artistic progress can take.
For collectors, Harbor Gallery offers a personal and informed approach to discovering and acquiring art. We assist both new and experienced collectors in identifying works that resonate with their interests, environments, and broader collection goals. Our team provides clear information regarding an artwork’s materials, dimensions, condition, provenance, and availability, as well as guidance related to framing, placement, installation, shipping, and ongoing care. We also collaborate with art advisors, interior designers, architects, and other professionals to develop thoughtful selections for residential, hospitality, and corporate settings.
At the heart of Harbor Gallery is a belief that collecting art is more than acquiring an object. It is an opportunity to engage with an artist’s ideas, support the continuation of a creative practice, and live with work that can reveal something new over time. Through carefully curated exhibitions, considered digital presentations, and responsive personal service, we aim to make that experience both accessible and enduring. We invite visitors and collectors to explore our artists, follow the development of their work, and begin a conversation with the gallery.

My practice begins with an interest in how memory alters our understanding of place. I am drawn to landscapes that are experienced repeatedly and remembered imperfectly: coastlines revisited over many years, rooms that once felt familiar, roads observed through a moving window, and natural spaces transformed by weather or time. Rather than depicting these environments literally, I reconstruct them through color, gesture, texture, and erasure. Each painting develops through a gradual process of accumulation. I apply thin washes of pigment, broad fields of color, and more concentrated marks, allowing each layer to respond to what came before it. Some passages remain visible, while others are covered, scraped back, softened, or partially removed. This repeated cycle mirrors the way memories are formed. Certain details remain vivid, others fade, and unrelated experiences occasionally merge into a new internal landscape. My paintings often occupy the space between recognition and uncertainty. A horizontal line may suggest a horizon, a pale opening may resemble distant light, or a dense cluster of marks may recall vegetation, architecture, or moving water. These references are intentionally incomplete. I want the work to provide enough familiarity for the viewer to enter, but enough openness for personal associations to emerge. Color plays an important role in establishing this emotional territory. Deep blues, mineral greens, weathered neutrals, and earthen reds are drawn from direct observation, but they are adjusted according to memory and feeling. I am less interested in reproducing the exact color of a place than in finding the color of its psychological presence.
